| The process of differentiating the Linde Gas Therapeutics business began in the mid-nineties. Since that time the company has been systematically growing its competence in the area of therapeutics and its development of inhaled nitric oxide (NO) as a pharmaceutical, through all its phases, has given a head start.
Today, Linde Gas Therapeutics consists of two business divisions: Hospital Care and Respiratory Homecare. The Hospital Care division supplies pharmaceutical and medical device gases to more than 600 clinics and hospitals. The Respiratory Homecare division is a service business that provides ventilation and oxygen therapy to home patients suffering from cardio-pulmonary diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and sleep disorders.
The role of the INO Therapeutics division is to build a world-class critical care pharmaceutical franchise for INOmax® inhaled nitric oxide, a unique proprietary therapy for neonatal intensive care units. It is the fist gas that was successfully developed as a drug used in medical therapies. It is also a model for future gas enabled treatment. INOmax received FDA approval for the treatment of hypoxic respiratory failure in certain newborns in December 1999 and European marketing authorization in August 2001.
