Shifting from medical gas to pharmaceutical product
For decades medical gases have been perceived as a commodity delivered to hospitals, but things are quickly changing. Regulatory authorities have reclassified the products from medical gases to pharmaceutical quality products. The shift promises to be of a major benefit to doctors in their efforts to treat patients. Linde Gas Therapeutics is presently documenting the quality, safety and efficiency of different gases in a therapeutic environment.
At the same time, new and more effective uses for gases, new delivery devices, more convenient packages and other improvements are being developed.
Gas enabled medical innovations will provide significant benefits in diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic procedures, because
- Gases are important biological messenger molecules
- Well-known gases and new gas pre-mixes show promising biological effects
- Current uses of gases in medicine are ready to be fully explored
- Physical and chemical properties of gases enable the application of other therapeutics principles often in combination with newly developed medical devices.
